A Day of Japanese Street Food (in Old Tokyo)

In this YouTube video by Tokyo Lens, the host, Norm Nakamura, explores the hidden gem of Yanaka, a traditional Japanese neighborhood in Tokyo. The video starts with Norm introducing the history and charm of Yanaka, which is known for its preserved old houses, narrow streets, and abundance of cats. Norm then takes the viewer on a walking tour of the neighborhood, showing the local shops, street food, and temples along the way.

Norm visits a few notable spots, such as a century-old sweets shop, a traditional knife store, and a local pottery studio. He also tries some delicious street food, including taiyaki and dango. The video showcases the unique blend of traditional and modern culture in Yanaka, as well as the friendly and welcoming community.

In addition to the sights and sounds, the video includes some historical background on Yanaka, including its role during the Edo period and how it survived the Great Kanto Earthquake. Norm also shares some tips for visitors, such as where to find the best views and how to properly greet the cats of Yanaka.

Norm Nakamura – Tokyo Lens

This is an old blog now. I do not write in here. It was something I once started and never continued. A lesson learned.

I thought about taking it down, but I thought I would leave it here as a reminder of something that I once did that didn’t quite take-root. I like that.

In more recent days, I have been more active on YouTube under my channel Tokyo Lens (by Norm Nakamura), while working under the Yoshida Brothers as an apprentice
(if you are interested, you can read about the entire journey to becoming the apprentice of the Yoshida Brothers here!)

Than you all for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the content. In the future, I may find my way back to writing. It was something that I really enjoyed, but never did consistently enough to provide any value through. For now, you can find it all on YouTube or on the Podcast!

Have a fantastic day, and I will see you again… real soon!
